Spring is certainly one of my favorite times of the year and with it comes another of my favorite times, "wedding season". I've been busy with some custom orders lately. I truly LOVE custom orders as I always discover a new way of creating something! Here are a few recent orders...

I recently had a bride request that the flower on my "Party Dress" bridesmaid pocket mirror be painted a different color from the dress. I'm not sure why I didn't think of this myself as I love the results!

1 little, 2 little, 95 little wedding magnets!

This order came from a bride planning to include one of these hand stamped magnets in each of her "Save the Date" cards...

Last but not least...I just completed an order for 28 shower favors. Each set includes a hand stamped, monogrammed pocket mirror and tiny tin pill box.

Here they are all packaged up in organza pouches with "You're Tweet" gift tags...

Hello ArtFire...

I've opened a new shop on ArtFire. I only have a few items listed right now but I plan to slowly add more and more items.

What's ArtFire? A website of handmade items - similar to etsy. So far I'm loving the listing process there - not to mention the coupon codes, express checkout, AND no sales fees!

The only thing missing right now are more shoppers. But the site looks great and I'm hoping it grows over time. Please pay a visit to my shop.

Etsy Wedding Showcase Results

So I purchased my first etsy wedding showcase a few weeks ago. The results? Pretty typically of what I've read in the etsy forums...lots of views...no sales. Will I continue to purchase showcase spots?...nope!

I haven't heard fantastic things about purchasing showcase spots on etsy - however, I thought I would try it out myself and make my own conclusions about it. Above is my "Bridesmaid Pocket Mirror - Classic Dress Design" available in my shop as shown in the showcase. We'll see how things go and I'll report back on the results.

I've recently discovered Clear Art Stamps rubber stamp company and I think I'm in love!

I ordered up 2 of their designs (even though I wanted to buy them all) from Joann's site and they arrive yesterday. I've already whipped up a few new designs for my etsy shop using them (thus the pocket mirror pictured above).

AND, Clear Art Stamps is an angel company meaning they do allow you to use their rubber stamps on product you'll be selling (hand stamped goods only of course and with credit).

Alice in Wonderland Pocket Mirrors

Created on a whim, a few of my favorite items in my new etsy shop are my hand painted "Alice in Wonderland" pocket mirrors. Currently I have 4 designs...Alice, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts Rabbit (shown above) and the Rabbit with the Pocket Watch.

The original 42 illustrations, done by Sir John Tenniel for the Lewis Carol classic book Alice in Wonderland, have become public domain. In other words, the copyright has expired. For my mirrors I laser print the illustrations onto ivory paper and then hand watercolor the images. It's proved to be delightfully fun painting these beautiful, classic illustrations!

I opened my new etsy shop today - HoneyBunnyPaperie.etsy.com. Although I'm far from an etsy newbie. My former etsy shop is TagsOnBags. I stopped listing there since the name just didn't fit anymore and I wanted to match my shop name to my website name. Hopefully, hopefully, someday I'll be able to combined the 2 shops. Rumor has it etsy sellers will have that option at some point in the future (fingers crossed).

Anyway, my shop is empty in the screen shot above - BUT - it won't be for long. I'll be spending the next few weeks listing all my new items. Please check it out:)

Matchbook Notepad Video Tutorial

Here's my video tutorial on how to make Matchbook Notepads using my template. I make and sell these templates in my etsy shop. Each template is double sided. One side makes larger size matchbooks that measure 2 3/4" x approximately 3 1/4". The other sides makes mini matchbooks that measure 2 1/4" x approximately 2 1/2".

The tutorial shows how to make matchbooks that have a "hidden" staple - that is, the staple doesn't show on the completed matchbook. I think they're so much cleaner and professional looking that way!

If you'd like to make the matchbooks, in addition to my template, you will also need to supply the following items yourself:

A ruler
Double sided clear tape
A pair of pliers
A stapler with staples
Some type of scoring tool (see info below)
And, of course, you will need the paper (cardstock for the cover & filler paper for the inside) to make them with.

For the scoring tool, you can use a bone folder or, the tool I use in the video is called a ball stylus and it's a sculptures' tool. You can purchase these in the art section of your local craft store - be sure you use one with a ball end and not a point! In a pinch, you could also use the end of plastic ruler, a dull butter knife or even the end of large paper clip. Just don't use anything sharp or it will cut the paper and the template.

Anyone remember Fashion Plates by Tomy? I got a set of these for either Christmas or my birthday around 1978 (I would have been 10 years old). Project Runway look out! These sets sell on ebay for anywhere from $20 to $50! Wish I still had mine.

How to Clean Rubber Stamps

I thought I'd share my favorite way of cleaning rubber stamps.

It's my personal perference to keep my rubber stamps really clean. Not only to help the stamps last but also to prevent the dried ink from contaminating other stamp pads when I go to use them again.

First, my secret weapons:
Baby wipes (nothing revoutionary there). I buy mine in the dollar store.

AND, something you may not have thought of before...
Paint Edger Pads from a company by the name of SHUR-LINE. These pads are sold in home improvement stores (I buy mine from Home Depot in the paint department). They are refill pads for edgers that are intended for painting the interior of houses. They're fantastic for scrubbing and drying rubber stamps. I like them because they don't leave behind any little "fuzzy wuzzies" on the stamp and they clean out all the little nooks and crannies. You don't need to buy the hardware - just the refill pads.

Here's how my little stamp routine goes...

Step 1. Ink and stamp your image.
Step 2. Clean the excess ink off the stamp with a baby wipe.
Step 3. Gently scrub the stamp back and forth on the paint pad. You'll be surprised how much ink comes off! And the stamp ends up nice and clean and dry - ready to be used again.

I use the paint pads until they look like the used one below and then grab a new one...

River City Rubber Works has some of my favorite stamp designs and, yes, they are an angel company!

Here's a link to their full policy. It basically states you can use their stamps on handstamped products - but no mechanical reproduction.

Angel Policy - Angel Companies - Stampabilities

Welcome to the second installment of "Rubber Stamp Companies with an Angel Policy". Today I'm featuring another one of my favorite rubber stamp companies and that is Stampabilities.

Once again, an angel policy is when a company (in this case I'm talking about rubber stamp companies) allows you to sell products (cards, gift tags, etc.) that you've handstamped using their products.

Personally, as an artist, it's very important to me that I don't infringe on anyone else's copyright. I'm always sure to check out angel policies prior to purchasing and using rubber stamps.

Stampabilities full angel policy can be found on their website here. Basically it gives permission to sell handstamped products as long as no machine replication is used. Their policy excludes several of their licensed stamps - so be sure to check out the full policy yourself.

Angel Policy - Angel Companies - Hampton Art

Today I'm starting another one of my regular blog features and it's on rubber stamp companies that have an "Angel Policy" in place.

What's an angel policy? It's simply permission from a company to use their rubber stamped images on items that you plan to sell for profit.

Some companies have more generous angel policies than others. Most angel policies have one thing in common and that is - you, the artist, must personally make and hand stamp the items you are selling. Some companies also limit the number of items you can produce and/or require their company be credited.

I'll start my list of angel companies with one of my very favorites...Hampton Art.

Hampton Art stamps are fabulous! After all, it's Hampton Art's Studio G that make those fantastic "dollar stamps" that can be found at Michaels and Joanns stores. Hampton Art has a generous angel policy in place. You can find the complete policy Here. Basically it states you may use their stamped images in one-of-a kind handmade projects to sell as long as you do not exceed quanities greater than 20 made by hired employees for the purpose of mass marketing.*

Behold an empty TagsOnBags.

About a week ago I made the difficult decision to close down TagsOnBags (my etsy shop). I started TagsOnBags in July of 2007 and I'm so grateful for all the things I've learned from running it. But running an etsy shop does not a business make. I've decided to take the knowledge I now have and pour it into a fresh start. Thus Honey Bunny Paperie has begun! And while it's hard to walk away from nearly 500 sales AND well over 200 customer comments with 100% positive feedback - I'm looking forward to the adventures ahead.
